Many very important people visited Springtown Camp during the time the US Naval personnel were bilited there from 1942 - 1945. One such person was the US Government's Navy Secretary William Franklin Knox who paid a visit with the head of the US Navy in Europe Admiral Harold R. Stark in September 1943. On 7 December 1941 at around 1.30pm President Franklin Roosevelt was conferring with his advisor Harry Hopkins in his study when Navy Secretary Frank Knox burst in and announced that Japan have just attacked Pearl Harbour. Japan had killed over 2,400 US naval and military Personnel in the attack that day. Knox was also mentioned by name when Adolf Hitler made his speech declaring war on America.
Other notables who came to Springtown Camp to entertain the navy were Bob Hope and Frances Langford.

These nick names do not describe anonymous faceless people, they bring to life people who we fondly remember for their wee characteristics ,sense of humour, and devilment. They all enhanced the days of our childhood growing up in Springtown Camp.
They live forever in our memory.
